Our client, a manufacturer in Southwest Tennessee, is seeking an experienced VP Finance/Hands-On CFO to join their team on a temp-to-perm basis. This critical role offers a unique opportunity to take charge of the company’s financial operations and contribute to significant projects that will shape the future of the business.
This position requires a hands-on leader with a strong background in manufacturing finance who thrives in dynamic environments and is eager to roll up their sleeves. The role involves overseeing general ledger accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, and operational reporting for both internal management and a family office ownership group.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Manage the corporate accounting department, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of financial management reports, including monthly and annual financial statements and budgets.
- Oversee accounting staff handling accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and analyze consolidated financial statements, ensuring conformance with GAAP standards.
- Review and finalize month-end reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts.
- Ensure SALT compliance by managing preparation and filing of personal property tax returns and monthly sales tax returns.
- Ensure proper accounting for leases.
Special Projects
- Drive improvements in operational reporting to support data-driven decision-making.
- Lead the implementation of a new ERP system.
- Manage an upcoming audit, ensuring compliance and readiness.
- Prepare and evaluate monthly borrowing base certificates.
Strategic Leadership
- Participate in budget coordination and preparation, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Establish and maintain robust systems and controls to preserve the integrity of financial processes and data.
- Support tax return preparation, including accrual-to-cash workpapers, and coordinate audit responses for unclaimed property.
- Mentor, support, and develop accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- 10+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting leadership experience, preferably in manufacturing.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and accounting software; experience with Sage 100 or SYSPRO is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in operational reporting improvements and ERP implementation.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, small-office setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with vendors, management, and ownership.
