Job Summary
The Staff Accountant is a detail-oriented professional for an engineering and architecture consulting firm. This role plays a crucial part in driving financial operations, supporting project accounting, and ensuring accurate monthly financial reporting for our diverse consulting projects. This position requires a strategic thinker who can navigate the unique financial landscapes of engineering and architectural consulting. This role is a key member of the accounting team and is responsible for maintaining and leading key financial processes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Develop and maintain comprehensive financial reports for project-based accounting
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities for cost optimization, and potential financial risks
- Assist in budget preparation and financial forecasting for projects and departments
- Prepare job cost reports and financial summaries for project managers and leadership
- Maintain general ledger, journal entries and ensure accuracy of financial records
- Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, including balance sheet and cash activities
- Support annual audit processes and prepare supporting documentation
- Manage fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards
- Develop and maintain robust internal accounting controls
- Assist in implementing and improving accounting procedures and systems
- Prepare and file state, local and federal tax-related documentation

Required Qualifications :
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred
- 3-5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in professional services or consulting
- Strong Excel skills and experience with financial modeling
- Familiarity with engineering or architectural industry accounting practices and ERP systems is a plus
