Job Description :

The Senior Marketing Director (SMD) is responsible for leading the development and implementation of marketing, communications and business development strategies to support the business in meeting its goals to grow its existing asset and property management portfolio while improving its commercial and competitive position. The SMD will be responsible for creating and leading a “best-in-class” customer-centric marketing organization that aligns with the business’ model and objectives. 




Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities


Strategic Marketing



  • Lead the development and implementation of the specific marketing, communications, and business development strategies and plans to support the entire business’ objectives.

  • Provide advanced subject matter expertise of the specialized market, business units and function to drive profitable revenue.

  • Provide leadership and strategic input to the executive leadership of both the Communities business and the Communities marketing team to align with strategic objectives for the region to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Ensure appropriate planning, development, delivery and measurement of all marketing & communications efforts including but not limited to client engagement, advertising, events, PR, media relations, social media, content marketing, reputation management and events and sponsorship.


Customer Focus



  • Managing the new Customer Care function within the Communities Business in concert with the Operations Lead for the business.

  • Help drive the successful development and implementation of the Customer Care Program and all activities related to the resident’s experience and their satisfaction throughout every phase of the journey across all our installations.

  • Ensure the company meets or exceeds benchmarks of success across a standardized experience by consistently delivering value-added services to our customers with the highest level of quality.

  • Manage delivery and execution of customer research and associated action plans for the business unit.


Internal & External Communications



  • Oversee the development, design, implement and measurement of internal and external communications strategies and plans to meet the business’ objectives and business goals leveraging integrated channels.

  • Bring channel expertise, particularly in the digital space, to optimize the impact and efficiency of all programs.

  • Provide overall guidance on look and feel of deliverables and ensure content, messaging and graphics are aligned with brand/business unit’s strategic positioning.

  • Drive editorial storytelling and content development in support of the business.

  • Serve as spokesperson for the business unit and projects when appropriate and required.


Reputation Management & Leadership



  • Serve as principal advisor to the executive and senior leadership team on emerging and ongoing reputational issues and risks. Anticipate reputational risk issues and develop and implement appropriate communication actions accordingly.


General



  • Identify and use a set of robust and useful KPIs to help rationalize spend, deliver P&L impact, and inform strategies and tactics.

  • Act as a single point of contact for the allocation and management of marketing and communications resources.   

  • Oversee and manage the performance and career development of direct reports. 

  • Establish a succession plan with clear and definitive paths for advancement for the full team.

  • Rigorously track and report on all activity, performance and outcomes to business unit and marketing leadership in pursuit of continuous improvement. 

  • Ensure overall achievement of budgeted financial targets and other standards set forth in approved business plans.


 


Required Qualifications :


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Media, Business or related field preferred.

  • 15+ years of marketing and communications experience coupled with strong customer service-related focus.

  • At least 7 years’ experience in a leadership role, part of which ideally would have been within a matrixed organization.

  • Thorough knowledge and hands-on marketing and communications experience in the residential development/real estate industry.

  • Ability to interact with senior-level executives requiring confidence, excellent diplomacy skills, intelligence and communication skills.  This could include varying levels of leadership within the military services at the Pentagon and with all levels of political leadership, including mayors, governors, county officials, etc.

  • Deep focus on and understanding of the customer experience.

  • Outstanding communication skills with all stakeholders and in all media.

  • A sound appreciation of political relationships and ability to liaise with politicians and support staff.

  • Strong leadership capability and focus on delivering results while working with diverse teams and multiple stakeholders.

  • Have an established track record of superior performance, innovative problem-solver who can dismantle roadblocks with flair and speed.

  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills.

  • Ability to influence peers and leaders.
