Job Description :
Our healthcare client is seeking a Payroll/Accounts Payable Manager to handle the collection, preparation, processing, and maintenance of employee payroll information and leave entitlements.  Participates in the department's performance improvement and continuous quality (CQI) improvement activities.  Responsible for processing Accounts Payable and the issuance of checks to vendors.  Provides direction and oversight of the accounts payable coordinator.


Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  • Oversees the verification, preparation and processing of payroll.

  • Coordinates and reviews the payroll system; makes recommendations for improvements.

  • Sets up new state tax accounts and communicates information to payroll vendor.

  • Ensures the timely processing of payroll and tax reports to the federal, state and local governments.

  • Investigates problems and complaints about payroll issues; payments, wages, deductions, etc.  Makes necessary corrections or changes.  Completes documentation.

  • Ensures all payroll information is completed, coded correctly and entered accurately into the computer system.

  • Compiles reports and statistics for Administration.

  • Works with external auditors when the payroll system and accounts payable is audited.

  • Ensures payments are made to vendors according to the terms in the purchase order; prepares voucher reports.

  • Monitors invoices for correct information; investigates invoice or payment errors.

  • Demonstrates the ability to be organized and flexible.

  • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.

  • Performs the interviewing, hiring, termination and annual performance evaluations of payroll and accounts payable staff.

  • Provides payroll staff with continuing education through in-services; orients new staff members; provides direction and oversight of the accounts payable coordinator.

  • Maintains affiliations with professional organizations and takes continuing education courses.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting or Business.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in payroll processing; 1 – 2 years OR 5 – 7 years payroll experience; 1 – 3 years AP experience preferred.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Additional languages preferred, but not required.
