Job Summary


The Director of Accounting oversees all general accounting operations, payroll, and cash management, and helps coordinate the annual independent audit process. This position develops, recommends, implements, and maintains accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including general ledger and fixed asset accounting. This position has responsibility for ensuring internal control procedures with the general accounting function and plays an important role in the integration of financial systems throughout the Barge organization.

Responsibilities



  • Oversee and manage month end close process, daily cash management and complex accounting entries.

  • Oversee general ledger maintenance, treasury/banking accounting, fixed asset accounting, cost allocations accounting, revenue recognition, and other accounting functions.

  • Direct and coordinate the smooth processing of all daily accounting operations including processing of accounts payable, cash receipts, journal entries, accruals, payroll journals, other disbursements, and adjustments.

  • Oversee and verify input of transactional activity from subsidiary and joint venture organizations.

  • Direct and coordinate monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts including bank reconciliations.

  • Direct monthly and quarterly general ledger analysis on various asset, liability, revenue, and expense accounts.

  • Ensure smooth and effective integration of all financial transactions and reporting systems.

  • Serve as System Administrator of BST Global accounting systems ensuring that integration and security and access controls are appropriate and effective.

  • Monitor, assess, and manage daily cash flow and account balances and initiate action as needed to move funds between accounts to manage cash effectively. Proactively update monthly and quarterly cash flow models.

  • Serve as System administrator of all bank accounts, ensuring that security and access controls are appropriate and effective.

  • Maintain the corporate chart of accounts (COA) ensuring that new codes are created and follow the current COA structure.

  • Support preparation of the annual Financial Statement Audit, Federal Acquisition Regulations Part 31 Overhead Audit, tax apportionment information and IRS Form 1095.

  • Assist as needed with research regarding application of GAAP, Barge policies, and other relevant guidance (such as allowable costs, revenue recognition, coding, etc.)

  • Supervise, manage, and develop the general accounting staff.

  • Ensure excellent customer service by providing timely and accurate information to stakeholders, as needed.

  • Performs other duties as requested/ assigned.

Required Qualifications :
 

Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required.

  • CPA/CMA/CA and/or master’s degree preferred.

  • A minimum of 8 years relevant experience, including 3 years of supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge of accounting practices and experience with Federal Acquisition Regulations Part 31 required.

  • Knowledge of relevant GAAP accounting rules and regulations.

  • Experience with BST Global or similar systems for general accounting.

  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as Power BI is highly desirable.
