Our client, a private equity real estate firm, is searching for a Controller to join their team. The mission of the Controller is to manage the financial health of the Company. This person will establish and coordinate corporate, property and construction accounting processes and procedures for the company. The Controller will be the financial expert within the Company, providing clear financial direction and strategic planning. The Controller will regularly interact with the executive team and provide financial performance feedback to each division of the business. This position will report directly to the Director of Construction & Operations. This position is in Nashville, TN.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, Manage & Hold Team Members Accountable
- Build and lead team of property, development, construction, and corporate accounting staff for a high-growth organization.
- Assist and supervise AR, AP, and Analyst Positions
- Maintain Accurate Financials
- Prepare financial statements for managed asset portfolio for all necessary periods: Monthly, Quarterly & Annually
- Establish organized accounting records complete with supporting workpapers and necessary schedules
- Perform and supervise month end close for property management, real estate development portfolios and corporate asset holdings
- Coordinating the annual tax filings and communication with the CPA firm
- Manage Financial Metrics
- Design, develop and implement best-in-class financial systems, processes, and procedures for the company and its multiple divisions
- Develop, implement, and track financial OKRs and metrics across the company
- Lead the development of company budgets, forecasts and cash projections
- Translate accounting data and financial performance to the CEO and Leadership Team
- Oversee Cashflow Management
- Ensure all company vendors are paid accurately and on-time
- Facilitate and execute monthly and quarterly distributions to investors and profit-sharing participants
- Manage and coordinate deadlines and requests with lenders regarding reporting for periodic accounting schedules and records for debt and loan covenants and requirements
- Manage regular Corporate Payroll and maintain Payroll tax and 401k compliance within the context of the payroll and HR providers
- Entity Accounting Support
- Manage the registration and startup financial activities of new companies and entities that require legal and accounting support
- Ensure all entities are in good corporate standing with regulatory agencies

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 3+ years relevant real estate industry experience
- Preferred private equity experience
- At least 6 years of previous experience in the accounting field. CPA preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks and real estate accounting platforms such as AppFolio or Yardi
- Tangible fixed asset experience
- Thorough working knowledge of multiple depreciation concepts including TARS
- Understand the complexity of various leasing and tenant improvement operations and their related input into the accounting system.

- Current and accurate financial reports including annual budget, variances, monthly forecasts
- Financial dashboard reporting on departmental KPI budget to actual results
- Vendors consistently paid accurately and on time
- A well-maintained, well-organized accounting document management system
- Easy to understand financial reports through an effective chart of accounts
- Accurate and timely reconciliations across all accounts including AR, AP and Payroll
