Job Description :
Our nonprofit client is seeking a Controller to conduct and supervise the organization’s foundational financial activities and controls. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and supervision to Accounting Staff in the processing of receipts, disbursements, and other accounting transactions. Coordinate daily work processes to ensure segregation of duties and accounting standards.

  • Maintain established General Ledger structure and accounts to record financial transactions of the organization properly and consistently. Routinely analyze and evaluate structure based on changes in accounting procedures, standards and needs of organization.

  • Manage organization’s cash flow and investment funds through established procedures under supervision of Administrative Director and Executive Director.

  • Communicate with Churches, pastors, and other church leaders about contributions, payments, and other financial matters as necessary.

  • Produce monthly and specialized financial reports for Executive Leadership on timely basis, noting trends and outstanding issues of importance.

  • Facilitate budget variance reports to staff, assisting them in identifying significant variances and determining causes.

  • Analyze financial reports for accuracy, discrepancies, and trends. Report significant issues to Executive Leadership.

  • Conduct regular examination and analysis of contribution patterns from churches and project future contributions.

  • Conduct intermittent internal audit control functions as necessary to ensure accuracy and adherence to organizational policy.

  • Coordinate the annual audit process for the organization, preparing financial statements, audit work papers and serving as primary liaison to the external audit firm related to the organization’s annual audit.

  • Coordinate the consolidation of subsidiary corporation’s financial statements. Provide direction and assistance to responsible staff directly and through other staff.

  • Coordinate informational services to churches on accounting related matters using Independent Contractor.

  • Maintain knowledge and skills related to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards and auditing pronouncements for non-profits.


Required Qualifications :

  • Four-year college degree in accounting or comparable business program

  • Five or more years’ experience in non-profit accounting operations

  • One or more years’ experience in employee supervision

  • Certified Public Accountant is preferred
