Job Description :

North Nashville area company seeks a Controller to assist with the formulation of company strategic objectives and support the achievement of those objectives through effective management of the Accounting and Administration department.  Controller is responsible within the strategic objectives of the company for initiating and/or supporting opportunities to improve cost management and increase profitability within existing revenues.   This position also oversees the development and maintenance of systems and operating practices to ensure accurate financial and customer accounting. Primary Duties:

1.       Performs monthly and annual General Ledger closing for  preparation of financial statements

2.       Prepare accurate and timely financial reports and maintain supporting documentation.

3.       Supports the independent audit of all tax and financial records by management.

4.       Perform necessary reconciliations of general ledger accounts to sub-ledgers, banks statements and other documents or record from related party.

5.       Maintains sound policies and procedures for disbursing and managing company funds.

6.       Monitor compliance to accounting process best practices.

7.       Provides for the safeguarding and recording of company assets (i.e., inventory, fixed assets, cash in bank).

8.       Oversees development of procedures for maintaining timely and accurate customer records, superior customer service, support to Sales representatives, etc.

9.       Ensure accurate and timely preparation of state Tobacco and Sales Tax returns

10.    Preparation of annual filings for business, property and personal property tax returns.

11.    Maintain all state, county and cities licenses for sales, tobacco and other regulated activities.  

12.    Supports, advises and counsels President as requested.

13.    Provides assistance to management team as needed.

14.    Maintains confidentiality of company and employee information.

15.    Ensures proper handling and distribution of company funds.

16.    Reacts productively to change.

17.    Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required, CPA is preferred

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in financial reporting and General Ledger maintenance is required with experience supervising professional and administrative personnel; and/or equivalent education or experience in job related activities is required.  

  • Require advanced working knowledge of Excel and mainframe systems.  

  • Experience in record retention requirements for federal and state authorities.
