The Accounting Manager is part of a collaborative team within the Business Office and will be responsible for overseeing and performing essential accounting functions of the school, while increasing department accuracy and efficiency.
The Accounting Manager reports to the Director of Finance (DOF) and assists the DOF with overseeing the recording, tracking, and reporting of financial information, as well as developing and implementing department controls and procedures, and ensuring that the Business Office operates efficiently and without sacrificing accuracy. This includes managing student accounts, accounts payables, and assisting with the overall financial management of the school.
The Accounting Manager position is full-time, Monday-Friday, and requires occasional evening and weekend participation in school events and functions, both in-person and virtual.
Primary Responsibilities
● Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes
● Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations
● Process and review invoices on a weekly basis or as needed
● Prepare and mail live check payments to vendors, prepare and transmit ACH payments to vendors, or make payments to vendors using the school credit card
● Ensure all payments are recorded accurately and all credit card transactions have supporting documentation
● Interface with DOF for tasks including depositing checks, coding expenses, approving invoices and expense reimbursements
● Cooperate with auditors and provide information as requested
● Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulations, including GAAP
● Ensure all documentation is maintained in accordance with the school’s document retention policy
● Ensure all vendors have complete paperwork filed with the school, including W-9 forms and Certificates of Insurance
Annually prepare 1099s for all vendors that require them
Required Qualifications
● Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field
● A minimum of 3-5 years successful accounting experience
● Technologically proficient
Desired Qualifications
● CPA designation is desired, but not required
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe and related programs
● Familiarity with Veracross or Blackbaud database management platform
● Skilled at learning new systems and technologies
